For those who care to know, this is what's new with me.
Not much new, but for once had a new thought (ha!) Slackware Linux works so well nowadays, that I think I'm losing my edge for troubleshooting linux-related issues. It's been so long since something's gone wrong... Are my skills even relevant? Good thing I'm not interested in doing system admin work for pay.
Contemplating getting a new phone because my Google Pixel's charging port is starting to fail. I've cleaned it out multiple times, and I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue. Good thing the phone is glued shut, so I can't open it up to take a look! Sigh...
I was finally able to attend CppCon in person, thanks to work. Aside from a bout of food poisoning on the first day, the conference was a lot of fun. Talks aside, it was nice to see some of my colleagues from the ISO committee, and the community at large, in person.
This site is now generated by a simple C++ program that splices a common header and footer together with files containing raw HTML. It is definitely overkill, but it was fun to write!
Just about ready to start up again on the trim for the main floor. I have been slowly getting the garage cleaned out in preparation for cutting and painting baseboards. The weather is starting to get nicer, so I should be able to do the painting in the yard where there's more space. I'll also be opening the pool shortly, which means I'll be attending my morning stand-up meetings while sitting by the water :-)
Work-wise, I finally finished upgrading our internal copy of the Boost C++ libraries from 1.74.0 to 1.81.0. It was a long slog, but along the way we improved our integration tests, and I learned a lot about how our build infrastructure works. I expect the next upgrade will go much smoother than this one did.
Still living through the main floor renovations, but now things are much further along. Just need to do the trim (baseboards, window frames, etc), some minor paint touch-ups, and get someone out to re-carpet my stairs. Things are definitely looking bright!
Work-wise, things are still going good. Very busy, but good. Between my last update and now, we also voted on the final shape of C++23. It will be going out for final voting by the national bodies that make up the ISO committee very soon.
It's been a very long time since I've done CSS by hand -- I actually had to look up how to assign a font family! Playing with this website a little bit. Added a few new pages whose contents I will flesh out in due time. Otherwise, getting ready for the holidays, and still enduring a home renovation.
I started my new job on October 31st. Coming from a company of roughly 50 employees total, to a large multi-national, is going to be a real change. So far, so good. I've also never worked in finance before, so there's a lot of domain knowledge I need to acquire.
I'm also living through a home renovation right now. Our main floor is a real mess, but the new kitchen stuff should be here in a few weeks.
